8.1 Local Media Caching

VibeNest automatically caches images and videos on your device using IndexedDB (browser local storage) to improve performance and provide offline access. Here's what you need to know:

What Gets Cached:

• Media Files: Images and videos you view on the feed
• Metadata Only: Filename, file size, media type (image/video), and timestamp
• Personal Data: No personal information, usernames, emails, or identifiers are cached

Where It's Stored:

• Local Device Only: All cached data is stored exclusively on your device's browser storage
• Never Transmitted: Cache data never leaves your device or goes to our servers
• Not Shared: Not shared with third parties or other websites
• Not Cross-Site: Cache only works on VibeNest; other sites cannot access it

Why We Cache:

• Performance: Faster loading - cached media loads instantly from your device
• Offline Access: View previously cached media without internet connection
• Offline Fallback: If media is deleted from our servers, you can still see your cached copy
• Bandwidth Savings: Reduces data usage on slower connections or mobile networks

Your Privacy Protections:

• No Tracking: We do not track what you cache or how often you view cached content
• No Profiling: Cache data is not used to build profiles or predict your behavior

Your Control:

• View Cache: See cache size and item count in Settings → Storage & Cache
• Clear Cache: Delete all cached media anytime with one click in Settings
• Disable Storage: You can disable browser storage in your browser settings to prevent caching
• Clear Browser Data: Clearing your browser cache/cookies also clears VibeNest cache

Storage Limits by Browser:

• Chrome/Edge: Approximately 10% of available disk space (usually 1-6GB)
• Firefox: 50MB-500MB (user-configurable)
• Safari: Approximately 50MB per website

First-Time Notice: When you first trigger caching, a privacy disclosure modal appears explaining all of the above. You must acknowledge it before caching continues. This notice only appears once per browser.

9. Children's Privacy

VibeNest is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.
